The purpose of the Arkansas Oil and Gas Commission is to serve the public. Specifically regarding oil and gas matters, preventing waste, encouraging conservation, and protecting the correlative rights of ownership associated with the production of oil, natural gas, and brine, while protecting the environment during the production process, through the regulation and enforcement of the laws of the State of Arkansas.

The Oil and Gas Commission has three office locations. The Director's Office is located in Little Rock. The South Arkansas Regional Office is located in El Dorado, and the North Arkansas Regional Office is located in Fort Smith.
